When we woke up on the morning of the second day, we had already arrived at the port of Amalfi (Salerno). It’s amazing to go to sleep and wake up at the next destination!
Half-Day Sightseeing in Positano
Today’s plan is to take a boat from Salerno’s port to Positano.
I wanted to visit both Amalfi and Positano, but due to time constraints, I could only choose one. I decided on Positano for its resort-like atmosphere, rather than Amalfi’s more downtown vibe. I was unsure whether to join a tour, but I ultimately decided to buy boat tickets on my own. In the end, it worked out perfectly.
Since the departure time for the small boat was early in the morning, we ordered room service for breakfast and were out by 8 AM to wait for the ferry. You can check the ferry schedule online, so be sure to look it up beforehand.
It’s perfectly fine to buy tickets for the ferry to Positano on the day of departure
I was unsure whether to book the boat tickets in advance, but as soon as we got off the cruise, we found a ticket booth where we were able to buy tickets for the trip to Positano. However, we couldn’t buy the return tickets there, so we purchased them at the ticket booth in Positano right after we arrived. It’s important to get your return tickets immediately, because if you miss the boat and can’t get back on time, there’s a risk the cruise ship could leave without you.
As you can see, the boat for the trip was nearly full. I’m glad we went out early and bought the tickets in advance.
It was a small boat, so there was a bit of rocking, but it was quite comfortable!
The small boat takes about an hour to reach Positano
You can also take a bus to Positano, but we chose the boat to avoid getting stuck in traffic and possibly missing the cruise’s departure time. It takes about an hour to reach Positano. Unfortunately, it was cloudy, and we would have preferred to come on a clear, sunny day, but it was still beautiful!
Positano is famous for its lemons, so there were lemon-themed souvenirs everywhere. I bought a candle as a souvenir!
I didn’t try them, but these desserts were so cute!
For lunch, we made a reservation at CHEZ BLACK
Chez Black in Positano is a restaurant I had been wanting to visit for sure. We had made a reservation in advance, but the earliest time they had available was 12:00 PM. I asked by email if we could make it at 11:30 AM, and they kindly agreed. I was really looking forward to it, but when we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t open yet at 11:30 AM, so we had to sadly give up. The reason was that the return boat was getting close, and we couldn’t wait until 12:00 PM. If we have the chance to visit again, we would definitely go to this restaurant.
I decided to cheer myself up and look for another restaurant where we wouldn’t have to wait. We found a place called CAPRICCI that had a nice atmosphere, so we decided to give it a try. They had a variety of dishes, including pasta, pizza, and seafood.
The octopus was fresh and delicious! It was served with Positano’s famous lemons, making it even better.
I took the opportunity to order seafood dishes, and everything was delicious! But still, I really wish I could’ve gone to CHEZ BLACK (tears).
Once we got back on the ship, we decided to have some fun at the pool and the casino!
We returned to the ship from Positano around 4 PM, and immediately headed to the pool with the kids. During this trip, we went to the pool every day after sightseeing and before dinner. For the kids, this was definitely the most fun part of the day!
After that, we took a shower and had dinner at the main dining room with a reservation for 7 PM through MyTimeDining. Today, I chose the fish menu, and it was delicious as well.
After dinner, I left the kids with my mother-in-law and went to the casino.
I personally enjoy playing the slot machines, while my husband prefers roulette. In the end, only my sister-in-law won about $300 at the roulette table on this cruise. It turns out making a little fortune at the casino on a cruise might not be just a dream after all!
